Stevens House, Malibu

historic place

The Stevens House in Malibu, California, is a historic place. Architect John Lautner designed this residence, completed in 1968. Dan Stevens commissioned the house for a beachfront lot. Lautner's design was inspired by the ocean waves. The structure features two concrete half-catenary curves that form both the roof and walls, supported by 14 I-steel beams. This design allowed for large glass walls, offering expansive ocean views. The interior includes concrete and cedar planking, with custom glass and Douglas fir sliding doors. The house also incorporates an indoor-outdoor swimming pool. The Stevens House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. A significant restoration of the property occurred from 2009 to 2010. This site exemplifies modern architectural design in Malibu.
