ZUMBROTA Yacht

historic place

The ZUMBROTA yacht, a historic vessel, is located in Marina Del Rey, California. This luxurious shallow-draft pleasure yacht was built in 1918 by Charles L. Seabury Company and Gas Engine & Power Company, Consolidated, in New York. Its original owner was Charles Ringling of Ringling Brothers circus fame. The ZUMBROTA was designed for cruising the shallow inland waterways along the East Coast. Over its history, the yacht served in the U.S. Navy during World War I as a section patrol boat. It was later owned by Warner Brothers Studios for starlet Mae West. During World War II, it was drafted for military service, patrolling the California coast as an anti-submarine vessel. Today, the ZUMBROTA operates as a charter yacht in Marina Del Rey. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. The ZUMBROTA remains an intact example of an early twentieth-century gas-powered pleasure yacht.
