Mountain View Adobe
historic place
The Mountain View Adobe, a historic place in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California, was built in 1934. This Civil Works Administration project, part of the New Deal, employed local laborers to construct it with adobe bricks, showcasing Spanish Revival architecture. It was initially a community meeting place, connecting downtown Mountain View with Moffett Field. During World War II, it served as a serviceman's club. Later, as the "Eagle Shack" teen center, it hosted dances and weddings. Closed in 1987 due to seismic regulations, a community campaign restored it, reopening in 2001. Designated a California Historical Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, this building illustrates a New Deal-era public work that has continuously served its community.
