10th Street Market

historic place

Welcome to the 10th Street Market, a historic place in Oakland, Alameda County. This site, also known as Swan's Market, began its life as a commercial market district. The original structure was built in 1917, with significant expansions occurring in 1926 and again in 1940. For over sixty years, it served as a major shopping destination for the East Bay. The market closed its doors in 1983. Later, the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation acquired the property. Following a historic restoration, the site reopened in 2000 as Swan's Marketplace, a mixed-use commercial and residential area. The 10th Street Market was recognized for its significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 2001. Today, it continues its role as a vibrant community hub in Oakland.
