Alameda County Building and Loan Association Building
historic place
The Alameda County Building and Loan Association Building, at 1601-1605 Clay Street in Oakland, California, is a historic place. It was erected in 1907, designed by Harry Cunningham and Matthew Politeo. This five-story structure combines Beaux-Arts and Art Nouveau styles. Its construction followed the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Over time, it evolved from a financial institution to the Hotel Wagner, and later housed the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Science. Today, it functions as apartments. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. It reflects Oakland's early 20th-century development.
