Pedro de Lemos House

historic place

The Pedro de Lemos House is a historic place in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. This Spanish Colonial Revival residence was built between 1931 and 1941. It was designed and constructed by Pedro Joseph de Lemos, a painter, printmaker, illustrator, and architect. De Lemos also directed the Stanford University Museum of Art from 1918 to 1947. The house features Byzantine Revival pillars salvaged from Stanford Chapel following the 1906 earthquake. Its interior includes handmade tiles, many collected by de Lemos during his travels. The Pedro de Lemos House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1980. A historical marker, likely erected around May 1997, notes it as "Hacienda de Lemos," designed by Pedro de Lemos between 1932 and 1933 as his studio home. This site is significant for its architectural style and its embodiment of Pedro de Lemos's artistic work.
