Squire, John Adam, House
historic place
The John Adam Squire House, a historic place in Palo Alto, California, was built in 1904. Located in Santa Clara County, it was designed by architect T. Paterson Ross and constructed by builder George W. Mosher. This house exemplifies California's interpretation of the Greco-Roman Classic Revival architectural style. Its first owner was John Adam Squire, a Stanford University Classics lecturer and a direct descendant of President John Adams. He resided here with his wife, Georgiana, and their three daughters. A historical marker, erected on January 27, 1973, highlights the house's design and its architectural significance. The John Adam Squire House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its preservation in 1973 helped establish Palo Alto's Historic Preservation Ordinance in 1979. This site is historically significant for its architecture and its role in local preservation efforts.
