Dielmann, John, House
historic place
The John Dielmann House is a historic place in Redwood City, San Mateo County. German immigrant baker John Dielmann built this Queen Anne-style cottage around 1892. The house was originally located at 505 Middlefield Road, which was then known as Second, and later Webster Street. In 1978, the Dielmann House was moved to its current address at 1020 Main Street to save it from demolition. Its exterior was faithfully restored in 1979 to preservation standards. Many original interior finishes and materials, including flooring, redwood wainscoting, fireplace mantels, and built-in cabinetry, have also been retained. On October 6, 2015, the John Dielmann House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is recognized as one of Redwood City's best-preserved Queen Anne-style cottages and one of the few remaining Victorian-era dwellings in the city center.
