Offerman, John, House

historic place

The John Offerman House, a historic place in Redwood City, San Mateo County, California, was built around 1857. It is the oldest surviving building in downtown Redwood City. John Offerman, a California Pioneer and San Mateo County Treasurer, owned this home. The house is a Folk Greek Revival-style dwelling. Its exterior features horizontally lapped redwood siding and a veranda, added in the late 1860s or early 1870s. The Offerman family owned the house for nearly 90 years. It was saved from demolition, relocated to 1018 Main Street, and restored in 1974. On October 6, 2015, the John Offerman House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it houses businesses like The Main Gallery and Alana's Café. This structure is significant as one of the few remaining from Redwood City's lumber-boom era.
