Charles Lais House, Sacramento
historic place
The Charles Lais House, a historic place in Sacramento, California, was built in 1896. This residence exemplifies the Queen Anne architectural style. Charles Lais, an employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad and a machine shop owner, commissioned the house. The Lais family resided here, with the third floor serving as a rooming house, until Charles Lais's death around 1930. The house is recognized as a significant example of late 19th-century architecture in Sacramento's Old City section. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 28, 1985. In 1980, a fire damaged the rear of the house and half of its roof, but it was restored in 1982. The Charles Lais House stands as a notable architectural example from its period in Sacramento.
