Eastern Star Hall, Sacramento, California

historic place

The Eastern Star Hall in Sacramento, California, was completed in 1928. Located at 2719 K Street, this building exhibits the Romanesque Revival architectural style. The cornerstone was set on May 19, 1928, with the dedication following on October 16. This hall is significant as the oldest building in Sacramento devoted to a women's institutional organization. The Order of the Eastern Star, an international organization for women within the Masonic Order, began in 1850. Sacramento's chapter formed in 1879, and local chapters raised funds for this hall from 1923 to 1928. Eastern Star Hall is one of only four buildings ever constructed specifically for the Order of the Eastern Star, and it is the sole survivor. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Its architectural quality and unique history as a women's organizational building make it a notable Sacramento landmark.
