Lawrence Warehouse, Sacramento
historic place
The Lawrence Warehouse is a historic place in Sacramento, California, located at 1108 R Street. Constructed between 1914 and 1915, this six-story building was designed in the Prairie School style by architect Clarence Cuff. Its original purpose was for storing, receiving, and shipping merchandise, positioned alongside the Southern Pacific railroad tracks. It was an early example of reinforced concrete construction in Sacramento. After World War II, the warehouse fell into disuse, though it later housed the California State Archives. The Lawrence Warehouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. By early 2015, it was transformed into the Warehouse Artist Lofts, providing 116 housing units for artists. This site illustrates a significant architectural and functional evolution in Sacramento's urban history.
