Mohr and Yoerk Market
historic place
The Mohr and Yoerk Market, a historic place in Sacramento, California, was constructed in 1911. It housed an early supermarket, recognized as the first on the West Coast to combine meat products with other food departments. In 1912, a four-and-a-half-story apartment building was added. The market closed in 1931, and the building was remodeled that same year. It later housed Bon Marche in 1933, and Ransohoff's department store from 1956 to 1990. The Mohr and Yoerk Market was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2017. This site is significant for its contribution to the history of grocery retailing in the western United States.
