Sacramento Hall of Justice
historic place
The Sacramento Hall of Justice, a historic place in Sacramento, California, was completed in 1917. This building, located in Sacramento County, was designed by the San Francisco architectural firm Shea and Lofquist. Its architectural style is Beaux Arts Classicism, a prominent design choice during the City Beautiful Movement. The design aimed to convey the building's civic importance to Sacramento. It was also created to be compatible with the adjacent Sacramento County Courthouse. Upon its completion, the Hall of Justice served multiple functions. It housed the City Police Department headquarters, which included a shooting range. The building also contained an emergency hospital, chemical and bacteriological laboratories, city courtrooms, and a city prison. The Sacramento Hall of Justice stands as a well-preserved example of early 20th-century civic architecture in the city.
