George W. Marston House
historic place
The George W. Marston House, a historic place in San Diego, California, was completed in 1905. It was designed by architects William Sterling Hebbard and Irving Gill. The house is considered an example of the Arts and Crafts Movement. It served as the home for George W. Marston, a department store owner and prominent civic leader, and his wife, Anna Gunn Marston. George W. Marston was known for his work in historic preservation and for founding the San Diego Historical Society. The Marston family gifted the house and its five acres of gardens to the City of San Diego in 1974. It became a house museum in 1987. The George W. Marston House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 16, 1974. Today, Save Our Heritage Organisation maintains the property as a museum and historic landmark. The site reflects the civic contributions of George W. Marston and the architectural style of its era.
