historic place

In San Diego, California, the Initial Point of Boundary Between the U.S. and Mexico is a historic place. It marks the westernmost point of the international boundary. This boundary was established following the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War. A joint commission set this initial point on October 10, 1849. A white marble obelisk was erected here in June 1851. This monument, originally Monument No. 1, was later renumbered as Monument 258. It was renovated in 1894. This site continues to define the border, marking the southwestern corner of the Continental United States.
