Armour & Co. Building
historic place
Here in San Francisco, at 1050 Battery Street, stands the Armour & Co. Building. This historic three-story brick structure was erected in 1907. It was designed by the architectural firm Henry Geilfuss & Son in an Italianate style. The building served as a meat smoking and packing facility for Armour and Company, which was one of the most powerful meat packing companies in the country. Notably, this site previously held an American Milling Company warehouse, also designed by Geilfuss, which was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire. After Armour moved out in 1934, the building later became a grocery warehouse. The Armour & Co. Building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in December 2009. It remains a significant example of the city's waterfront warehouse district history.
