Building at 33-35 Beideman Place
historic place
The building at 33-35 Beideman Place in San Francisco is a historic two-family residence. It was constructed around 1876 in the Italianate style. Records show the San Francisco Water Department connected it to the water system in 1876. The building originally stood at 736-738 Franklin Street, and Henry Vollmer was its first owner, renting the property out. This structure survived the 1906 earthquake and fire, remaining in good condition despite absentee ownership. In November 1974, the building was moved to Beideman Place. This relocation was a significant effort to save historic Victorian homes from demolition during the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency's clearance of the Western Addition neighborhood in the early 1970s. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, a designation that supported its preservation. By 1977, it was restored at its current site, becoming part of a row of preserved Victorians. This building exemplifies the city's commitment to retaining its architectural heritage amidst urban development.
