Dr. Martin M. Krotoszyner Medical Offices and House

historic place

At 995-999 Sutter Street at Hyde stands the Dr. Martin M. Krotoszyner Medical Offices and House. Constructed in 1912, this building was designed by architect Herman Barth in the Beaux Arts style. It is a fine example of City Beautiful Classicism, notable for its richly-colored and textured masonry surface. This distinctive structure served as both the residence and medical offices for Dr. Martin M. Krotoszyner. He was a pioneer in the medical fields of cystoscopy and blood cryoscopy. Dr. Krotoszyner gained recognition as a leading urologist in the Western United States and played a role in training many prominent urologists in San Francisco. The building is considered the finest architectural example of its combined office and residence type in downtown San Francisco, contributing to the Lower Nob Hill Apartment Hotel District. It represents an increasingly rare survival of this specific building form. The Dr. Martin M. Krotoszyner Medical Offices and House was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 15, 1985.
