Edwards, Frank G., House

historic place

The Frank G. Edwards House, located at 1366 Guerrero Street in San Francisco, was completed in 1883. Architect Joseph Gosling designed this historic residence, which was built by Florence Crowley. The house was constructed for Frank G. Edwards, an English-born importer and civic leader who arrived in San Francisco in 1852. He was known for his "Pioneer Carpet House" business. This ten-room, flat-front Italianate residence also features elements of the Stick-style. Its setback from the street, creating a front yard, was uncommon for the densely built neighborhood. The Frank G. Edwards House holds significant historical value. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, became a California Historical Landmark in 1982, and a San Francisco Designated Landmark in 1988. This property is a notable example of transitional Italianate design in San Francisco.
