Geneva Office Building and Power House

historic place

The Geneva Office Building and Power House in San Francisco was constructed around 1901. These two brick buildings served as the administrative center and power source for San Francisco's first electric railroad company, The San Francisco and San Mateo Railroad Company. The complex later operated under companies like United Railroads and the San Francisco Municipal Railway. These structures survived the 1906 earthquake with minor damage. In 2010, the Geneva Office Building and Power House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the Power House has been rehabilitated and functions as a community cultural and education center. This site is a notable reminder of San Francisco's early electric rail system and its industrial past.
