House at 1331-1335 Scott Street

historic place

The House at 1331-1335 Scott Street in San Francisco is a historic place. These woodframe, Stick Style townhouses were originally built in 1888. Martin O'Dea, a prominent horseshoer, was the original owner. The property first stood at 216-220 Elm Street. It survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. In the 1970s, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency undertook a "slum clearance" project in the Western Addition. To save these and other Victorian buildings from demolition, they were moved. This building was relocated to Scott Street in November 1974. The House at 1331-1335 Scott Street was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. This listing was part of an effort to preserve significant Victorian residences during a period of urban redevelopment. The site matters historically as an example of a preserved 19th-century San Francisco residence, saved through a significant relocation effort.
