Koshland House
historic place
In San Francisco, California, in the Presidio Heights neighborhood, stands the Koshland House. This historic place, located at 3800 Washington Street, was constructed between 1902 and 1904. The house was built for Marcus and Corinne Koshland. Corinne Koshland, inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles during a European tour, commissioned architect Franklin S. Van Trees to design their home as a replica. Its architectural style is Classical Revival. The Koshland House holds historical and architectural significance. It was designated San Francisco Landmark 95 on July 9, 1977. On December 9, 1983, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Corinne Koshland was a notable figure in San Francisco's cultural life, supporting the San Francisco Symphony and Opera. The Koshland House often hosted musical events. The house's facade was damaged in the 1906 earthquake but was quickly restored. The Koshland House remains a significant example of early 20th-century architecture in San Francisco.
