Moss Flats Building, San Francisco
historic place
The Moss Flats Building stands at 1622-1626 Great Highway in San Francisco. Built in 1906 by Charles M. Depew, it features the Bay Area Shingle Style. At that time, the ocean frontage was developing as a beach resort. Most nearby structures were temporary, often repurposed streetcars or beach cabins. The Moss Flats Building was a substantial three-story construction, originally for three beach rentals, making it unique. Today, this building is one of the few remaining examples from that early development. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Moss Flats Building offers a tangible connection to San Francisco's early beach community.
