Pacific Gas and Electric Company General Office Building and Annex

historic place

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company General Office Building and Annex is a historic place in San Francisco, California. The original seventeen-story building, at 245 Market Street, was constructed from 1923 to 1925. Architects Bakewell & Brown designed this Beaux-Arts structure as the Pacific Gas and Electric Company headquarters. Its terra cotta-clad exterior features an arcaded lower section. An annex, matching the original design, was added from 1945 to 1947. This site is historically significant as PG&E's headquarters and as an example of the large terra cotta-clad office buildings that shaped downtown San Francisco in the 1920s.
