Sinton House, San Francisco
historic place
The Sinton House is a historic place located at 1020 Francisco Street in San Francisco, California. It was constructed in 1927. San Francisco architect John A. Porporato designed this residence in the Italian Renaissance style for its first owner, Anthony N. Lanza, who owned the Lanza Wine Company. In 1943, Marjorie Finocchio purchased the property. Later, in 1954, Stanley Henry Sinton, Jr., and his wife Eleanor, known as Nell, acquired the house. Nell Sinton was a notable abstract expressionist artist. In 1955, architect William Wilson Wurster carried out significant interior alterations to the house under Mrs. Sinton's direction, also converting the detached garage into an artist's studio for her. The Sinton House is recognized for its architectural design by Porporato and Wurster, and for its association with Nell Sinton's artistic career.
