Trinity Presbyterian Church, San Francisco

historic place

Trinity Presbyterian Church, in San Francisco's Mission District, was built between 1891 and 1892. Designed in the Romanesque style by Percy and Hamilton, it is one of their few buildings to survive the 1906 earthquake. The church was largely undamaged by the 1906 earthquake and fire, serving as a relief center for the city. In 1900, Mayor Sunny Jim Rolph was married here. Over decades, Trinity Presbyterian Church offered social and religious services. During the 1930 Depression, it distributed one hundred tons of food to over 3,000 families. Designated San Francisco Landmark 166, the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This site reflects a continuous historical role within the Mission District.
