Tubbs Cordage Company Office Building
historic place
The Tubbs Cordage Company Office Building is a historic place in San Francisco, California. This structure, built in 1890, served as the superintendent's office for the Tubbs Cordage Company. Alfred and Hiram Tubbs founded Tubbs and Company in 1853 as a ship chandlery business. Recognizing the demand for locally produced rope, they established the Tubbs Cordage Company. In 1856, they produced their first rope, marking the first commercial rope manufacturing west of New England. The building was originally located at the Tubbs Cordage factory on Front Street. It was moved to Hyde Street Pier in 1963 for display and preservation, and moved again in 1990. This building exemplifies early San Francisco industrial architecture, reflecting the city's maritime and industrial history.
