Dohrmann Building, San Jose
historic place
The Dohrmann Building, a historic place in Santa Clara County, stands at 325 South First Street in San Jose. It was constructed in 1926. This four-story structure was developed by T.S. Montgomery, who envisioned San Jose as a prominent city. Architects Ashley and Evers designed the building for A.B.C. Dohrmann, a businessman from San Francisco. The Dohrmann Building is notable for its refined revival design, which reflects the architectural styles and materials of its era. Its facade is clad in terra cotta, a material from the Gladding McBean factory in Lincoln, California. It is one of only three remaining terra-cotta clad commercial buildings in downtown San Jose that retains its original design. The building was designated a City of San Jose Landmark in 1983. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since February 20, 1986. The Dohrmann Building represents a significant element in San Jose's architectural heritage.
