Leib Carriage House
historic place
The Leib Carriage House is a historic building in San Jose, California, located in The Alameda district. It was built in the 1870s as the Garden Alameda area developed. The carriage house was owned by Judge Samuel Franklin Leib, a successful San Jose attorney whose clients included Mrs. Sarah Winchester and Mrs. Jane Stanford. While the original estate and home are no longer present, the carriage house remains. Its architectural style is reminiscent of the East Coast Shingle Style, which is unusual for California. The Leib Carriage House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This site provides insight into the architectural styles and early development of San Jose's historic Alameda district.
