historic place
The Twohy Building is a historic place in San Jose, Santa Clara County. It was constructed in 1917. Architect William Binder designed the building in the Classical Revival style. Judge John W. Twohy, founder of the Twohy Brothers Construction Company, commissioned its construction. The building originally served as a commercial space with offices and a ground-floor drug store. Its presence helped establish South First Street as a significant business center in San Jose. The Twohy Building is a San Jose City Landmark and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It remains a notable example of early 20th-century commercial architecture in the city.
