Pereira Octagon Barn
historic place
The Pereira Octagon Barn is a historic place located in San Luis Obispo, California. This unique structure was built in 1906. It was constructed by Henri LaFranchi, John Damaso, and a milk farmer. The barn first housed Antonio Stornetta's Santa Fe Dairy until 1917. In 1920, the Pereira family, including Joaquin and Josephine Pereira, acquired the property and operated their Home Dairy here. The octagon design was considered efficient for dairy farming. Dairy operations continued at the barn until the 1950s. After this period, it was used for raising cattle and growing crops. By the 1990s, the barn had fallen into disrepair. The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County began its restoration in 1997. In December 2013, the Pereira Octagon Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of only two octagon barns remaining in California. Today, it serves as a community gathering place, representing the region's agricultural and immigrant history.
