Morse, Charles Copeland, House
historic place
The Charles Copeland Morse House is a historic place located in Santa Clara, California. Built in 1892, this residence was the home of Charles Copeland Morse, co-founder of the Ferry-Morse Seed Company. His company became one of the largest vegetable and flower seed companies globally. The house itself is an outstanding example of Queen Anne architecture, recognized as the most elaborate remaining Victorian structure in the City of Santa Clara. The historical marker for this site was erected in 1977 by the California State Department of Parks and Recreation, along with the City of Santa Clara Historical Landmarks Commission and Chamber of Commerce. The marker text describes it as 'the house that seeds built,' a reference to Morse's pioneering work in the seed industry. This work had a substantial impact on California's economic growth. The Charles Copeland Morse House remains a significant example of late 19th-century architecture and reflects Santa Clara's agricultural history.
