De Turk Round Barn

historic place

The De Turk Round Barn, located in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, is a significant historic place. It was constructed in 1891 by Thomas Ludwig for Isaac DeTurk. The barn's original purpose was to house DeTurk's prized trotting horses. This structure is notable as one of the oldest round barns in California and one of the few surviving round or polygonal barns in Northern California. In 1988, the City of Santa Rosa designated it as a local landmark. It was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. After Isaac DeTurk's death in 1896, the barn served as a livery stable. The City of Santa Rosa later acquired the property in 1910, using it as a supply depot and then a corporation yard until the early 1980s. In 2011, the De Turk Round Barn was renovated and reconfigured into a community building and event center. Its continued existence provides a direct link to Santa Rosa's late 19th-century agricultural and equestrian history.
