Hotel La Rose, Santa Rosa, California

historic place

Hotel La Rose is a historic place in Santa Rosa, located in Sonoma County. It was built in 1907. The hotel replaced the St. Rose, a predecessor destroyed by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Italian stonemasons, including Peter Maroni, Natale Forni, Massimo Galeazzi, and Angelo Sodini, constructed Hotel La Rose. They utilized locally quarried andesite stone, creating a substantial building in the Georgian Revival style. The hotel was an important part of Santa Rosa's "Hotel Era," serving railroad passengers and workers in Railroad Square. In 1978, Hotel La Rose was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's 1943 film, "Shadow of a Doubt." Hotel La Rose represents early 20th-century stone construction and its connection to Santa Rosa's railroad history.
