Edgemoor Farm Dairy Barn
historic place
The Edgemoor Farm Dairy Barn in Santee, California, has a history spanning over a century. Constructed in 1913, it was built by Walter Hamlin Dupee as part of his award-winning dairy farm. The barn's original purpose was to house Dupee's prize-winning bulls, central to his dairy operations. In 1923, the County of San Diego acquired the property. The barn then served as part of a "last resort" home for the aged and indigent. Over time, its role evolved, becoming part of the Edgemoor Geriatric Hospital and later a storage facility. Today, the Edgemoor Farm Dairy Barn is home to the Santee Historical Society, operating as a museum. Its significance is recognized through its listing on the National Register of Historic Places, which occurred on May 16, 1985. This structure stands as a tangible link to Santee's agricultural and social welfare history.
