Hockett Meadow Ranger Station
historic place
The Hockett Meadow Ranger Station is a historic place located in Sequoia National Park, within Tulare County, California. The current station, a three-room log cabin, was constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It exemplifies the National Park Service Rustic architectural style, which aimed to harmonize structures with their natural surroundings using local materials. Before this structure, an original Hockett Meadow Ranger Station was built in 1906, approximately 200 yards away. Ranger Charlie Blossom served at this earlier cabin from 1906 until his death in 1916. The original station was later razed in 1969. The Hockett Meadow Ranger Station was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 1977. Its significance lies in its architectural design, its landscape integration, and its connection to the Civilian Conservation Corps' efforts during the Great Depression.
