Ronda, West Hollywood

historic place

Welcome to Ronda, a historic apartment complex in West Hollywood, California. Located on Havenhurst Drive, this Spanish Colonial Revival style building was designed by master builders Arthur and Nina Zwebell. Constructed in 1927, Ronda is recognized as one of Southern California's best examples of courtyard housing. Its design features parallel courtyards, a sophisticated element unique to the Zwebells' work in Los Angeles. The complex provided a private yet urban environment, appealing to members of the film industry during the 1920s. Notable residents included Clark Gable, Randolph Scott, and the Marx Brothers. Ronda, also known as Mi Casa Apartments, was designated a City of West Hollywood Local Cultural Resource and placed on the National Register of Historic Places. A historical marker for the La Ronda Historic Building was erected in 1985 by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the City of West Hollywood. This site illustrates West Hollywood's architectural heritage and its connection to the early film industry.
