I.O.O.F. Hall, Woodbridge, California
historic place
The I.O.O.F. Hall is located in Woodbridge, California, within San Joaquin County. The building began as the Lavinsky Store, a one-story brick structure, erected in 1861. In 1874, it was expanded with a second-story addition to house the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. This fraternal organization, with origins in 18th-century England, established its first American chapter in 1819. The Woodbridge I.O.O.F. Hall served historically as both a clubhouse for the Odd Fellows and a commercial space on its ground floor. It is an example of Early Commercial architectural style. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The I.O.O.F. Hall is one of three architecturally significant buildings remaining in Woodbridge. Fraternal orders like the Odd Fellows played an important role in the early settlement period of communities like Woodbridge.
