Woodleaf Hotel
historic place
The Woodleaf Hotel, located in Yuba County, was constructed in 1858. Joseph Wood built the hotel using bricks made on-site from native clay. The architectural style was considered unique for this California region. During the 1800s, the hotel served as a favored stage stop for wealthy ranchers, miners, and lumbermen. Among its visitors were President Ulysses S. Grant, entertainer Lotta Crabtree, and Black Bart. The hotel was originally known as Woodville House. In 1898, the town received a Post Office and changed its name to Woodleaf. The Woodleaf Hotel was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on April 9, 1975. This site provides a historical record of a 19th-century stagecoach hotel.
