Quarters 10 and Building 267, Yerba Buena Island

historic place

On Yerba Buena Island, in San Francisco County, you'll find Quarters 10 and Building 267. These structures were constructed in 1948. They hold historical significance as the only housing built on Yerba Buena Island in the immediate post-World War II period. Designed by the U.S. Navy's Bureau of Yards and Docks, their architecture showcases significant characteristics of Modern and International Style, with elements relating to the local Bay Tradition. In 2008, Quarters 10 and Building 267 were officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. In January 2015, these historically important buildings were relocated from their original site at Northgate and Macalla Roads to a new home overlooking Clipper Cove. This move was necessary to make way for new Bay Bridge on- and off-ramps, ensuring their continued preservation and recognition as significant examples of modern military residential design.
