Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot, Yorba Linda
historic place
The Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot in Yorba Linda, Orange County, California, is a historic place. This depot was constructed in 1911 by the Pacific Electric Railway. It served as a combination passenger and freight facility. The depot was a central point for transportation and rail commerce in Yorba Linda. Fruit was shipped out by the carload, and supplies like fertilizer and lumber were delivered here. The "Big Red Car" provided public transportation, taking townsfolk to Los Angeles nine times daily. Passenger service continued until 1938. The railroad tracks were removed in 1951. In 1983, a historical marker was erected, recognizing the depot's significance. The marker text notes the depot's construction in 1911 and its role in shipping and passenger service. It also mentions conductor Ben Foss, who would announce, "Yorba Linda, Capital of the World!". The Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot is one of the last surviving structures from the Pacific Electric Railway system. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
