The Chris Jorgenson Studio

historic place

The Chris Jorgenson Studio is a historic place in Yosemite National Park. Artist Chris Jorgenson, a landscape painter, built this one-room log structure in Yosemite Valley in 1904. He used it as his art studio, depicting the park's scenery. The National Park Service acquired the studio in 1919, and it became the first Yosemite Museum in 1920. In 1962, the studio was moved to the Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona. This building is significant for its artistic origins and its role as the park's initial museum.
