Yosemite Valley Chapel
historic place
The Yosemite Valley Chapel is a historic place located in Mariposa County, California. This New England-style chapel was erected in 1879. San Francisco architect Charles Geddes designed the building. It was constructed by Samuel Thompson for the California State Sunday School Association, at a cost between three and four thousand dollars. The chapel was originally located near the base of the Four Mile Trail. In 1901, the structure was moved to its present site. Today, the Yosemite Valley Chapel is the oldest building in Yosemite National Park still in public use. It has continuously served as an interdenominational house of worship since its dedication, marking it as a significant historical site within the park.
