Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp
historic place
Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp, located in Yosemite National Park in Tuolumne County, is recognized as a Historic Place. This site, at an elevation of 7,800 feet, was initially selected for a hikers' camp in 1923. The Yosemite National Park Company constructed the first camp in 1927. The original location, situated in a flat valley downstream, was later moved. The camp relocated to its current position alongside the 80-foot White Cascade due to issues with mosquitoes. The name "Glen Aulin" is derived from Gaelic words, meaning 'beautiful valley or glen.' As one of Yosemite's historic High Sierra Camps, it offers lodging in canvas tent cabins and provides family-style meals. Glen Aulin remains a key part of the High Sierra Camps loop, representing an early development in supported backcountry hiking within the park.
