Snow Creek Ski Hut

historic place

The Snow Creek Ski Hut, a historic place in Mariposa County, Yosemite, was constructed in 1929. Modeled after Swiss mountain chalets, it supported early winter visitation and ski-mountaineering. The hut also served as a scouting shelter for a proposed ski area on Mount Hoffmann. It welcomed its first visitors in January 1930. By 1934, public use declined due to the popularity of downhill skiing at Badger Pass. The National Park Service then used the cabin for snow surveys. After periods of closure, the hut was restored in 2006 and reopened for winter use. The Snow Creek Ski Hut was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 18, 2014. This structure highlights the evolution of winter recreation and park management in Yosemite.
