historic place

The Adams-Ryan House is a historic place located in Adams Basin, Monroe County, New York. Constructed around 1825, this building served as an inn along the towpath of the Erie Canal. Its original structure reflects a vernacular Federal style, with later alterations adding vernacular Greek Revival details. The house operated as an inn until 1916. After a period of abandonment between 1939 and 1972, it later functioned as a bed and breakfast until 2018. The Adams-Ryan House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1985. A historical marker on site states: 'The Adams-Ryan House. This property has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.' This site is a rare surviving example of an inn that supported travelers along the historic Erie Canal.
