William Wombough House, Addison, New York
historic place
The William Wombough House is a historic place located in Addison, New York, within Steuben County. This residence was constructed around 1830. It is an I-shaped, two-and-a-half-story, side-gabled frame building with interior ridge chimneys at each end of a metal-clad roof. The house showcases a transitional late-Federal and early Greek Revival architectural style. William Wombough, the house's namesake, was a notable early settler in the region. Born in New Jersey in 1769, he settled in the Tuscarora valley in 1804. Wombough was instrumental in the area's development, building a saw-mill in 1805 and a grist-mill in 1806 on Tuscarora Creek. He became a significant landowner, eventually possessing about two thousand acres in and around Addison. The William Wombough House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, acknowledging its architectural and historical significance.
