15th Street--Prospect Park Subway Station (IND)

historic place

The 15th Street–Prospect Park Subway Station, located in Brooklyn's Kings County, is a historic place. This underground station officially opened on October 7, 1933. It was built as part of the Independent Subway System, known as the IND, which was a new subway network planned in the 1920s to expand transit in New York City. Serving the Windsor Terrace and Park Slope neighborhoods, the station is situated near 15th Street and Prospect Park West. It features two tracks and one island platform. The Culver Line's express tracks run in separate tunnels below this station and are not visible from the platform. The station was constructed approximately 100 feet east of Prospect Park West, not directly under a street. On July 27, 2005, the 15th Street–Prospect Park Subway Station was added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its significance within the city's public transit history.
