East Midwood Jewish Center

historic place

The East Midwood Jewish Center, located in Brooklyn, New York, is a historic place with roots in the 1920s. It was founded in 1924 by a group of individuals committed to establishing an institution for Jewish education, spiritual, and social needs in the area. The cornerstone of its Renaissance Revival style building was laid on June 13, 1926. The building, completed in 1929 at a cost of about one million dollars, was designed as a synagogue-center, including a synagogue, auditorium, classrooms, and a gymnasium. In 2006, the East Midwood Jewish Center was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition highlights its significance as an example of early twentieth-century synagogue design and its role in the development of the New York Jewish community. The center has served as a hub for its community for decades.
